Solarization Stability

Solarization stability of SUPRAX® 8488 borosilicate glass

SUPRAX® 8488 borosilicate glass is the perfect material for applications where short UV-wavelengths are of no significance. No loss of transmittance in the long wavelength region throughout the total visible range is guaranteed.

SUPRAX® 8488 is characterized by a low coefficient of thermal expansion (4.1 x 10-6K-1) resulting in a high thermal shock resistance. Therefore, our SUPRAX® borosilicate glass is just the right material for glass lenses in solar collectors: sun rays become highly focussed when directed by the glass lens. Certain areas in the glass lens are exposed to high temperatures whereas other local sections stay cool. In a consequence, in a short distance within the lens body high temperature gradients can occur.

Conclusion

SUPRAX® 8488 borosilicate glass offers the optimized combination of low coefficient of thermal expansion with high stability in respect to solarization.
